Spine necklace | sterling silver

The vertebral column — 33 bones stacked into a flexible axis of support, protecting the spinal cord across its entire length.

The Anatomy of the Spine

The vertebral column consists of 33 vertebrae: 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral (fused into the sacrum), and 3-4 coccygeal (fused into the coccyx). It has four curves in the sagittal plane — cervical lordosis, thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis, and sacral kyphosis — which act as a spring system to absorb axial loads during locomotion. The primary curves (thoracic and sacral kyphoses) are present at birth; the secondary curves (cervical and lumbar lordoses) develop in infancy as the child lifts their head and begins to walk. The spinal cord descends to approximately L1/L2, below which the cauda equina (a bundle of lumbar and sacral nerve roots) continues to the sacrum.

FAQ

Q: Why is the spine such a powerful anatomical symbol?

A: The spine is the body's structural foundation, supporting everything above it. It also houses the spinal cord, the neural highway connecting the brain to the rest of the body. Anatomically and metaphorically, it represents strength, flexibility, and the backbone of our existence.

Q: Is this suitable for someone in physical therapy or chiropractics?

A: Perfect. The spine is the centerpiece of their work, and wearing it acknowledges the elegance of spinal anatomy and the healing they facilitate.

Q: What material and chain does this come with?

A: Sterling silver on a 45cm (18-inch) sterling silver chain. Shipped globally via DHL Express.
