Caffeine ring | sterling silver

One customer chose this caffeine ring for a best friend who loves coffee and chemistry. Caffeine is the molecule in that morning cup, and this ring is for the people who know its structure as well as its taste. Give it to a sister or friend like that, or wear it yourself, on the hand that holds the cup.

Who It's For

  • a best friend who loves coffee and chemistry, for her birthday or Christmas
  • a sister who starts every day with a cup, as a Christmas present
  • a daughter finishing a science degree, to celebrate her master's
  • a colleague who keeps the lab going on coffee, when she moves on
  • yourself, as a quiet tribute to your love of coffee and a ring people ask about

Grayson W. bought it as a gift: “Very much enjoyed the finished product, you might expect to be let down by most things you only see online but I was very pleased with what I was sent”. Ronja G. bought one to keep: “The ring fits as expected, the size is exactly as measured and ordered.”

How Your Body Breaks Down Caffeine

Caffeine and theobromine, the main stimulant in cocoa, differ by a single methyl group: caffeine carries three, theobromine two. Your liver takes caffeine apart by removing those groups one at a time, mostly through an enzyme called CYP1A2. Most of the caffeine becomes paraxanthine. Smaller shares become theobromine and theophylline. So part of your morning coffee turns, inside you, into the stimulant in chocolate. How fast this happens differs a lot from person to person, partly with how active CYP1A2 is, so a late espresso is still in some people's blood at bedtime and long gone in others.

FAQ

Which size should I order?

The ring comes in US sizes 5 to 9, about EU 49 to 60. Measure the inside of a ring she wears on the same finger and compare it with a size chart. If she is between two sizes, write to support@sciencejewelry1824.shop before you order and we'll help you choose. If it doesn't fit, return it unworn within 30 days for a refund and order the right size. It is 925 sterling silver, nickel-free and hypoallergenic.

Is there a gold caffeine ring?

Not as a ring. The caffeine ring is made in sterling silver only. The caffeine necklace comes in sterling silver and in 18K gold vermeil, both with a 25 mm pendant, and the caffeine earrings come in the same two finishes, a 14 mm molecule on 17.5 mm hoops. For a silver set, there are also caffeine studs (11 x 14 mm). Choose the finish she already wears.

Is it delicate?

Yes, it needs some care. The band is plain silver, but the molecule on top is fine openwork, and its small points can catch on a coat, knitwear or gloves. A hard snag can bend it. Put it on last when you dress, and take it off for the gym, gardening, washing up and anything that grips the hand. Store it on its own, rinse it under warm water and dry it with a soft cloth.

How fast does it arrive, and can it be returned?

DHL Express delivers free in 1-5 business days worldwide, and we pay the import duties and taxes, so nothing is due at the door. It arrives in a ready-to-gift jewelry box and festive envelope. If it isn't right, our 30-day “Love It or Return It” policy applies.

Is the caffeine in tea the same as in coffee?

Yes, it is the same molecule, though chemists once thought otherwise. In 1827 a chemist named Oudry isolated a stimulant from tea leaves and called it théine, as if tea had one of its own. In 1838 Gerardus Mulder and Carl Jobst each showed that théine was caffeine. The old name has stayed in use: in French, the caffeine in tea is still often called théine. What differs between the two cups is how much caffeine they hold and what comes with it.
