DNA earrings | 18k gold vermeil

The double helix worn as a daily pair. Paired earrings for a researcher who carries DNA structure with them every day. 20 mm, small enough to be subtle at a microscope, specific enough that a biologist across the room will recognize it.

The Science Behind the Double Helix

The structure of DNA was published in April 1953 by Watson and Crick in a one-page Nature paper, built on X-ray crystallography data produced by Rosalind Franklin and Raymond Gosling. The helix completes one full turn every 3.4 nanometres, with 10 base pairs per turn and a diameter of about 2 nanometres. What the structure immediately implied (and Watson and Crick noted with deliberate understatement) was a copying mechanism: "It has not escaped our notice that the specific pairing we have postulated immediately suggests a possible copying mechanism for the genetic material." Watson and Crick shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962, along with Wilkins.

A Meaningful Gift for Science Lovers

  • molecular biologists and geneticists
  • biochemists and structural biologists

  • anyone who prefers their jewelry to have content

The most recognized structure in biology, in a size that does not need to announce itself.

FAQ

Who appreciates DNA earrings as a gift?

Anyone working in genetics, molecular biology, or bioinformatics recognizes the double helix instantly. They work equally well for someone who studied biology and still carries that love of DNA structure into their career.

What makes DNA structure so visually distinctive?

The anti-parallel strands and the major and minor grooves create an unmistakable silhouette. Watson and Crick's insight was not just the pairing rules, but how that pairing spirals into a shape you can hold, and now, wear.

What are the size, material, and earring type?

20 mm earrings in 18k gold vermeil (sterling silver core with 2.5 micron gold plating). Nickel-free and hypoallergenic. Come with leverback hooks. Ships free worldwide via DHL Express in 1-5 business days. Comes in a ready-to-gift jewelry box with the 30-day “Love It or Return It” policy.

Is there a silver version?

Yes. DNA earrings are available in sterling silver at the same 20 mm size. Both versions come with leverback hooks.
