RNA necklace | 18k gold vermeil

If you teach the central dogma you draw the same arrow ten times a year: DNA to RNA to protein. RNA carries the message, builds the ribosome, becomes the catalyst, and in the cell, does most of the actual work the genome only encodes.

The Science Behind RNA

RNA differs from DNA in three structural details: ribose instead of deoxyribose, uracil instead of thymine, and a single strand instead of double. Those small changes give RNA its central biological role. Messenger RNA carries information from gene to ribosome. Transfer RNA delivers amino acids in the right order during translation. Ribosomal RNA forms the catalytic core of the ribosome itself, which is why the ribosome is now classified as a ribozyme. Small regulatory RNAs (microRNAs and siRNAs) control which genes get translated and how much protein each produces. The 2020-2021 mRNA COVID vaccines were the first time the public saw, on a billion-doses scale, that RNA could be a therapeutic class in its own right.

A Meaningful Gift for Science Lovers

Mostly given to people who actually work with RNA every day.

  • molecular biologists and RNA biology researchers
  • mRNA vaccine and therapeutics scientists
  • ribosome and translation researchers
  • biochemistry educators teaching the central dogma
  • genetic counsellors and clinical genomics professionals

About a third of orders go to people finishing a PhD on RNA biology or transitioning into mRNA therapeutics work.

FAQ

Why a gold version of RNA?

Because RNA had its public moment with the mRNA vaccine rollout, and a milestone gift for someone whose career runs through RNA biology now reads differently than it did five years ago. The gold tone signals occasion: a thesis defence on RNA biology, a tenure milestone, a transition into a biotech role, an anniversary in the field.

What makes RNA a "ribozyme"?

The ribosome's catalytic active site, where amino acids get joined into a protein chain, is built entirely from ribosomal RNA, not protein. The proteins of the ribosome are structural support. The actual chemistry happens on the RNA. This was a foundational discovery in the 1980s by Tom Cech and Sidney Altman, who shared the 1989 Nobel Prize for showing that RNA can catalyse reactions on its own.

Size, material, chain length?

24 mm pendant in 18k gold vermeil over a sterling silver core (2.5 micron plating), nickel-free and hypoallergenic, on a 45 cm gold vermeil chain (1.8 mm diameter) with lobster clasp and a 5 cm extender. Free DHL Express shipping worldwide in 1-5 business days, all duties and taxes covered, 30-day “Love It or Return It” policy.

Is there a silver version?

Yes. The RNA necklace exists in 925 sterling silver at the same 24 mm size. Same design, material is the only difference.
